My Jewish Vision

כ״ח בְּנִיסָן תשע״ט 

This credo is a statement of my highest belief in what Judaism was, is, and should be. It can be read as a manifesto or as a poem: it is the declaration of my heart and my intellect. These words describe the qualities of a Jewish soul which I am always striving to realize, if only for a moment.

Sacred words, whispered or sung, usher us towards holiness. Praying through art, breathing in the wilderness, cherishing the beliefs of our ancestors and holding the divine spark transmitted through the generations pull us closer and closer still. But without a soul on fire, without a heart free to express itself, God drifts out of reach. Only by undoing the bonds that oppress us can we stand before the One in fullness and respond to the call, ayeka.

At the heart of everything is love, and the rabbis show us different ways to give and receive love. We learn love from our holy writings and rituals, but when misguided customs lead to bigotry and hatred, we must receive revelation in the present time. God, angels, spirits, ancestors all exist on earth, and though their exact nature is a mystery, we can glimpse and relate to them through honest asking and intensive prayer. When we lose our way, our ancient custom is to ask for guidance from this divinity flowing around and through us.

Our sages revealed truth within the body and mind and in the cycles of the heavens and earth. It is upon us to continually unravel this truth. Just as every living being sheds and grows new cells, truth demands that religion transform in every generation, and that we bend like the reed in a changing tide. The people are calling for marginalized members to claim their voice and step into the center of creation and leadership, their demands based in our most fundamental values and understanding of holiness. Through empowering each soul among us, we give voice to God, we honor our heritage, and we open the door for new life to emerge and rescue the world.

We are all teachers who can lift one another out of suffering and offer ourselves in service of community. Inside each of us dances a pure soul, a reflection of the Creator. Every breath is a sacred opportunity to honor that connection, a gate opening again and again, eternally inviting us into the garden. Finding our way through that opening is the journey of our lives. It is our birthright to be in relationship, to share blessings, to love and be loved, when we become ready to open and receive.

 מילים קדושות, לחישות או מושרות, מוליכות אותנו לקדושה. מתפלל באמנות, נושם במדבר, מטפח את אמונות של אבותינו ומחזיק את הניצוץ האלוהי המועבר דרך הדורות משכים אותנו קרוב יותר ויותר. אבל בלי נשמה על האש, בלי לב חופשי לבטא את עצמו, ה׳ נסחף מחוץ להישג יד. רק אם נבטל את הקשרים המדכאים אותנו, נוכל לעמוד לפני האחד ולהשיב לשיחה, אייקה

בלב הכל אהבה, והרבנים מראים לנו דרכים שונות לתת ולקבל אהבה. אנו לומדים אהבה מכתבי קודש שלנו והמצות שלנו, אבל כאשר המנהגים המוטעים מובילים לקנאות ולשנאה, עלינו לקבל התגלות בזמן הזה. ה׳, מלאכים, רוחות, אבותינו ואמהותינו קיימים על פני הארץ, ואף על פי שאופיים המדויק הוא תעלומה, אנו יכולים להציץ ולהתייחס אליהם באמצעות תפילה כנה ותפילה מכוונת. כאשר אנו מאבדים את דרכנו, המנהג העתיק שלנו הוא לבקש הדרכה אלוהות שזורמת סביבנו ודרכנו

חז"ל חשפו את האמת בתוך הגוף והנפש ובמחזורי השמים והארץ. עלינו להמשיך להתיר את האמת הזאת. כמו כל יצור חי שופך וגדל תאים חדשים, האמת דורשת הדת לשנות בכל דור, ושאנחנו מתכופפים כמו קנים בגאות משתנה. העם קורא שהחברים שוליים לתבוע את קולם ולצעוד אל מרכז הבריאה והמנהיגות, והדרישות שלהם מבוססות בערכים יסודים שלנו ובהבנה של הקדושה. על ידי העצמת כל נשמה בקרבנו, אנחנו נותנים קול לה׳, אנו מכבדים את המורשת שלנו, ואנחנו פותחים את הדלת לחיים חדשים כדי לצאת ולהציל את העולם

כולנו מורים שיכולים להרים אחד את השני מתוך סבל ולהציע את עצמנו בשירות הקהילה. בתוך כל אחד רוקדת נשמה טהורה, השתקפות של הבורא. כל נשימה היא הזדמנות קדושה לכבד את הקשר הזה, שער נפתח שוב ושוב, הזמנה נצחית להיכנס את הגן. מציאת דרכנו דרך הפתח היא מסע חיינו. זאת זכות המולדת שלנו להיות ביחסים, לאהוב ולהיות נאהבים, כאשר אנו מוכנים לפתוח ולקבל
