It can be a daunting task to imbue in your child a love and knowledge of music, while nurturing the confidence and motivation needed to learn an art form. Parents often tell me of their child's bursting creativity, and their search for a teacher who can help nourish and direct that energy to its highest potential. I share this desire and believe that fun, dedicated musical learning will not only teach you an instrument, but shine self-worth and productivity into all areas of your life.
I have infused this philosophy into my guitar and vocal teaching for the past 5 years to students of all ages. My approach incorporates the following elements:
- technical skill and music theory comprehension
- song-writing and music composition
- positive relationship with music, instrument and the learning process
- gaining self confidence as a musician, which includes performing learned music
- "teacher as mentor," a relationship in which students feel believed in, practically supported and safe to experiment and challenge limits
I've observed these elements from the various guitar and voice teachers I have worked with over the past 10 years, and from my music theory and guitar studies at Emory University. My music has won a number of awards and been featured in articles for original compositions and performance.
I make home visits and can instruct multiple students in a session. "Ariel is a role-model for my daughter, compassionate, spontaneous, energetic and profoundly deep young woman. I trust her with my daughter, and with my home and heart. "Ariel is more than Lucie's music teacher and friend, she is a mentor, spiritual advisor and role model. She has shown her how to be more confident, thoughtful and generous teen. As for Ariel's musical talent, she is a wonderful teacher, helping Lucie find confidence with her vocal ability and insight into the language of making beautiful music. Our family feels very lucky to have Ariel in our lives." -Bette, guardian to Lucie, vocal student
