My name is Ariel Root Wolpe. I am a Jewish musician, artist, and community organizer. I love figuring out spiritual community and transforming people's hearts through music.

B'nai Mitzvah

I tutor Bar and Bat Mitzvah students in Greater Los Angeles.

I am continuously exploring the depths of the Jewish tradition and yearning to share my love of Torah and Jewish culture with the next generation. Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is one of the most exiting moments in Jewish life, and I love being a part of preparing young Jews to enter into a personal, committed relationship with their Judaism. I work hard to help my students feel ready, confident, and connected to the significance of becoming a Jewish adult, so they can experience their Bar or Bat Mitzvah with excitement and pride in their success.

I design each curriculum specifically for your child's level of knowledge, learning style, and religious goals.  This curriculum will best prepare your child for his or her Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah day.  Each program includes the following components:

  • Learning to chant Torah and Haftarah Trope (melodies) for the Shabbat portion he/she will read for the service

  • Singing and leading Shabbat prayers

  • Reviewing the meaning of the Torah portion and writing a D’var Torah, the speech in which the B'nai Mitzvah gets to share his or her ideas and thoughts with the community

  • Teaching about holidays, rituals and practices

  • Preparing the family for meaningful participation in the service

Alongside these practical preparations, I initiate continuing conversations with students about what this experience means for them, and support them in developing a sense of Jewish identity around becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

Preparing to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah can be daunting for young Jewish adults and their families, and I help you from the very beginning through this momentous day. I go beyond standard Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah preparation, taking your child step by step through the Torah portions and prayers so that your child is ready, excited, and confident to become a Jewish adult. I hope to stay connected with my students as they move through their lives as a Jewish resource and support in their journey.
